The Charming Oak Bay Beach Hotel***** on the Sea
near Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

Built in an English Manor House style and reopened in the fall of 2012, Victoria’s Oak Bay Beach Hotel has been completely reconstructed to an international luxury standard on the same spectacular oceanfront lot where the previous hotel sat for more than 85 years. Legendary and iconic, the Oak Bay Beach Hotel, on the edge of Victoria on the lovely Vancouver Island, is a complete destination by itself as it sits right on the shore extending out into the sea. The staff are extremely gracious and attentive and ready to assist at every turn.

As well as having rooms with kitchenettes, the swimming pool and spa extend out into the sea and pick up the early morning sun as well as the rays of the setting sun. The exercise gym and the lovely “Boathouse Spa” for a total pampering are located there too. The spa features three heated outdoor mineral baths that are situated on the edge of the Salish Sea. The “Boathouse Kitchen & Bar” is open seasonally from May through to September and serves food and beverages right at pool side.

For golfers, there are course privileges at the exclusive “Victoria Golf Club”, the oldest club in Canada, as well as at the “Uplands Club” which provides golf with a real challenge. The hotel provides bikes for those who enjoy peddle power.

There are a variety of dining choices: There is the main “Dining Room” which is cozy and nicely old world complete with fire place, “The Snug” Cafe and Bar that serves inside and on the terrace overlooking the sea, and the wood paneled pub like cafe for quick snacks and beverages. The rooms and suites are warmly appointed, some with kitchenettes, and even fire places, for those who like to bring the whole family and make some of their own meals. Our suite even had sliding doors between the bathroom and the bedroom for those who like to carry on chats with their loved ones while freshening up in the tub. It goes without saying that the wifi is complementary.

Lounge

We were treated to endless sunshine and blue skies for our entire stay in Victoria. So in some ways the flickering fire in the lounge was a comfort although not needed for heat. But it brought to mind lovely morning breakfasts and leisurely afternoon teas in this this lovely wood paneled room complete with piano for musical events during the not so sunny months. The main dining room was also perfectly designed for cooler weather dining enjoyment with it's deeper toned design and its own fire place. We enjoyed a a very pleasant dinner in this dining room sitting right by the window with its view out over the charming back gardens with the running stream and Japanese style bridge that leads to the pool and spa area.

I had a a roasted squash soup that made a perfect starter to compliment my main course of roast chicken with asparagus. Peter started with a large dish of Prosciutto with melon, tomatoes and greens with Buffalo Mozzarella followed by a nice Sockeye Salmon and assorted vegetables. I was happy with the fresh fruit dessert and Peter enjoyed his Vanilla ice cream and strawberries.

There is even a theater in the complex! So there is something for everyone and a marina just down the road where sea lions come to perform for goodies. The Oak Bay Beach Hotel has something for everyone from those who like to be active to those who just want to kick back and totally relax with help from human hands or just the sun and sea.
